As the oldest Doric temple in Siciliy, Temple of Apollo (Tempio di Apollo) represents an important Ancient Greek monument. Built at the beginning of the 6th century BCE, the temple once boasted six columns on the short side and 17 on the long side, each standing over 7 m (22 ft) high. After being repurposed many times throughout history, only two of these columns remain. Make your way around the raised walkways and look down into the ruins that now sit in the center of the city. Visit the Museum of Syracuse to view a scale model of the temple and a video allowing you to see what the inside once looked like.
