Abbazia Benedettina Santa Maria in Silvis, Sesto al Reghena

Attracted by the two stars of the Touring Guide I visited this beautiful and interesting Abbey founded by the longobards in 730 A.D. The abbey complex is very articulated and includes: what remains of a wall, a portal, a Palace of the Chancellery, the abbey residence, a bell tower, a lodge and the actual church, all surrounded by the River Reghena. Accompanied by the local tour guide, both competent and passionate, in the vestibule of the church we admired the frescoes of Hell and Paradise recently restored. Interestingto note that the fresco of Hell is very ruined because of the pebbles that the ancient faithful naive slapped against us !! The wooden ceiling (partly being restored) and the crypt containing the ancient urn of St. Anastasia are also very beautiful.

We returned to Sesto al Reghena after many years and were able to visit the Abbey complex accompanied by a very good and passionate local guide (Barbara). We admired the frescoes of the vestibule (hell and paradise) and the presbytery, which have "resumed life" with the valuable restoration just finished. Not only the abbey but also the surrounding places are definitely worth a visit.
