  • Excellent signage and interesting choices of paintings, images, etc. The rooms are cheerful and businesslike. We were happy to find it open when other sites were closed.  more »
  • A lovely place, certainly after the restoration has resumed its splendor.

  • PLACE NICELY RESTORED. PERFECT AS an EXHIBITION SPACE, magical Museo diocesano di Piazza Armerina was established on 25 November 2001 with the primary aim of conservation of cultural heritage materials clergymen of the diocese, their exploitation and public use. With this in mind and according to modern addresses of museums the Diocesan Museum was organized in the former Bishop's Palace, historical storage rooms with tasks that ensure a feature at various levels, and in such a way that it can be a reference point for similar ecclesiastical institutions, in organisational, technical-scientific and cultural and pastoral initiatives. Sorting object materials and preparation of the Diocesan Museum consist of artworks and artefacts of various kinds, owned by the Church, coming from the Basilica Cathedral, church buildings discharged or by donations, as well as by all those ecclesiastical goods subject to serious risk of deterioration or leakage, that become part of the Museum according to the formula "temporary storage", awaiting restoration and adequate relocation in the origin countries. By way of the museographic General, were integrated the main topographic and chronological sort orders, implementing the so-called "seven areas", which organizes the works period by period (from the early centuries of Christianity until modern times), by surveying system of the diocese (which extends from Erei mountains to the Gulf of Gela), with thematic combinations. About the offer of services to respond to instances of culture, the Diocesan Museum has a library with a reading room, a Hall for screenings and conferences, and also teaching spaces with a constant use by schools and University. There is also a laboratory for restoration of tissues and liturgical vestments.
