Teatro Farnese is a Renaissance theatre in the Palazzo della Pilotta, Parma, Italy. It was built in 1618 by Giovanni Battista Aleotti. The idea of creating this grand theater came from the Duke of Parma and Piacenza Ranuccio I Farnese. The theatre was almost destroyed by an Allied air raid during World War II (1944). It was rebuilt and reopened in 1962.PutTeatro Farnese into our Parma trip itinerary builder and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.
It is, along with the Teatro all'antica in Sabbioneta and the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza, one of only three Renaissance theaters still in existence.
Some claim this as the first permanent proscenium theatre (that is, a theatre in which the audience views the action through a single frame, which is known as the "proscenium arch").

Due to the Covid, the theater was almost empty. This theater is very impressive by its size and the tremendous seating area all in wood. A visit is a must. more »

Such an interesting place with a fascinating story. When you consider the size of it, when and why it was built I am sure it will make you wonder more »

A wonderful reprise of the original wooden theater. The ceiling, columns, benches, stage, ... everything is a complete copy of the original. A lot of knowledge and skills were needed to make a copy. It's a genuine feeling that it's not a restored stage. worth a visit. Entry fee is symbolic.
