Palazzo Mirto, Palermo

4.6
See how Italy's royalty lived at Palazzo Mirto, a palace located in the historic center of Palermo. This building's earliest construction dates from the 13th century, when it was built as a citadel Arab fortress. For four centuries, it was home to the Filangeris--the most famous Norman family in southern Italy, descended from the storied knight Angerio. Having undergone significant restructuring in the 17th century, the palace now houses opulent 18th-century chandeliers, tapestries, and a smoking room with a Chinese leather floor. • Really nice and interesting. Self visit, with good documentation provided describing each each room.
  • Dreamy palazzo inhabited by the princess up to recent decades. The throne room is most impressive with brocade wallpaper. At 5euros its a bargain and more impressive than most other palazzi in Palermo.
