  • This morning, on my way to the Falcone and Borsellino Gardens, I came by here to review the remains of the ancient Lazzaretto and the tiny Orthodox church that found you home. For both reasons the place is very impressive and constitutes a very special corner in a city that sometimes seems to have forgotten its history. To admire the few but significant remains of the porch of bramantesche forms from which the chimneys of the ancient shelters stand. This, together with the nearby church of San Carlo (see review), is all that remains of the Lazzaretto, described by Alessandro Manzoni in The Promised Newlyweds. A place that definitely deserves a detour if you are in the vicinity of Corso Buenos Aires.

  • For many years we walked from the Milano Centrale district to Soros Buenos Aires past this building and did not pay attention to it. Since well could not imagine that in such a building, with such architecture can be a temple. Until the corner did not consider a very interesting wooden cross. From historical sources learned that here in ancient centuries was ll Lazzaretto di Milano - a shelter for patients during epidemics, was built in the late 15th century. It had the shape of a quadrangle and occupied an area that overtook the current boundaries of the streets - Via San Gregorio, Via Lazzaretto, Viale Vittorio Veneto and Corso Buenos Aires. I got interested and wanted to come in, which she did. A small but functional church with all Orthodox attributes. There is a tombstone on the territory that says, "Oh, wanderer, step up, but don't cry." What, politics again!? And then there's Chiesa Ortodossa Russa di San Nicola and flags???
