Island · Nature / Park
Once home to the most important Phoenician and Carthaginian settlements, Isola di Mozia (Mothia)/ San Pantaleo was rediscovered in 1888. Basilican monks occupied the island in the Middle Ages, but lived in total isolation until Joseph Whitaker arrived in the 19th century. Since then, the Whitaker Foundation has owned and managed the island, which is known for its wine production. Take a guided tour of the wineries' cellars, where you can taste their wines. Visit the museum to see the well-preserved ruins of the noble residencies, roads, and artifacts. You can hire an English-speaking guide for a tour of the island. It couldn't be easier to arrange your visit to Isola di Mozia (Mothia)/ San Pantaleo and many more Marsala attractions: make an itinerary online using Inspirock's Marsala trip maker site.

  • Pleasant place for a walk. A small museum of artifacts. Windy outside.
  • Ferry is entrance to the island and museum 14 euros. Archaeological area of Selinunte 6 euros. Something's not right... Price too high for a poor site and not held very well, only the museum deserves with the beautiful statue of the young mothia, and fortunately some area where at this time is working an expedition. The ruins are all too "ruins." In conclusion: too high a cost for what is offered.
