Our name, Donnafugata, literally ‘woman in flight’, refers to Queen Maria Carolina who fled on the arrival of Napoleon’s troops, seeking refuge in the part of Sicily where the winery's vineyards now stand. This is the story inspiring the effigy of a woman’s head with windblown hair found on every bottle.
But we would like to tell you another story. This time it tells how the winery was born.
The Donnafugata adventure began in the Rallo family’s historic cellars in Marsala, in 1983, and at its Contessa Entellina vineyards in the heart of western Sicily. In 1989, Donnafugata arrived on the island of Pantelleria, commencing its production of “naturally” sweet wines.

This is one of the best wine tasting i have experienced. The host was friendly and explained the tour in detail. The best part was the wine tasting with the food pairing. Both the food and wine were delicious. Thumbs up!
Best wine tasting ever. It was very interesting, good organised and I've never tasted so many different flavours. The four wines which we could try and the food were really special. The most amazing was the sweet wine Ben ryé. I normally don't like sweet wine but this flavour was like nothing I ever tasted before.
