Cascata delle Marmore, Marmore

4.3
#1 of 59 in Parks in Umbria
Cascata delle Marmore is one of the tallest waterfalls in Europe and the tallest manmade waterfall in the world. The ancient Romans created the waterfall, which stands at 165 m (541 ft). Hike to the top of the falls and gaze down at the massive flow of water and the Nera valley below. About halfway up, look for the tunnel that leads to an observatory called Lovers' Balcony. You're bound to get soaked in this romantic spot, so bring a rain jacket. You can choose from several hiking trails. You can refuel afterward from food vendors at the bottom of the falls or bring your own picnic. Guided tours are available. • The waterfalls are very nice and absolutely worth to visit. Parking is not free and Route 1 can not be accessed by a stroller. There are many (steep) stairs. And you have to have good condition and good walking shoes to walk them. The entrance fee is 10 Euro P.P. You can enjoy it all day long. Look in advance on the website how late the waterfalls enter into. We enjoyed it.

  • During the summer holidays, I the companion, we decide to go to visit the waterfall of marbles... The waterfall is one of the highest in Europe, located in Umbria, near Terni. Access to the park can be made from below (lower viewpoint) and from above (top viewpoint), and possibly you can take advantage of the shuttle (for a fee of 2nd cad)... We started from the top, parked (for a fee) and after making the ticket (10th cad) we ventured into this breathtaking landscape, completely immersed in nature!!! A beautiful walk, composed of many steps, doable by all children, full of paths to be able to walk with tranquility... We chose to do 1,2 and 3... Beautiful all, but the most evocative was definitely the number 1, which takes you directly to the balcony of lovers... A balcony nestled in the waterfall, just below, where, at full load of the waterfall, the water almost touches it, you swim literally!!! In fact, I definitely recommend bringing a k-way, or possibly buying it for 1st before entering... During the journey we noticed the presence of areas equipped for picnics, although we did not take advantage of it. The landscape is beautiful, something indescribable... To be left speechless!!! I definitely recommend going at least once to visit the waterfall, wearing comfortable shoes and having cash in hand, as there are no counters to withdraw, and there is no possibility to pay for it with ATMs or with a credit card. Check the opening hours of the waterfall, so you can admire it in all its power and majesty... Gorgeous!!!
