One of the biggest statues of Jesus Christ in Europe, Statua del Cristo Redentore di Maratea overlooks Maratea. Sculpted by Bruno Innocenti, and completed in 1965, the figure stands with its arms outspread. Shuttles provide transportation to the top.   • Maratea is a quaint hill-side village about 2.5 hours south of Naples and sits in spectacular mountains by the sea. Built in 1965 the statue (made of white granite) of Jesus Christ sits on top of one....  more »
  • We walked up on a September evening starting in the upper town or Maratea. It took a bit longer than expected; probably an hour. The views from the top are fantastic and there are a couple of bars.....  more »
  • Superb views. You can drive to a car park (5 euro per hour) and walk the remaining way. Or there's a bus service for 1 euro.
  • I walked up to the top through the countryside. I visited during the slow season, so there were few visitors on the roads making it a unique experience in time. Very quiet and peaceful. A warm Italian couple gave me a ride back down to my hotel. Beautiful and special.
