A masterpiece designed by architect Giulio Romano, Palazzo Te is a blend of palace and villa architecture. The four facades with rustic-looking walls and flat pilasters appear symmetrical. Take a closer look, though, and you'll see that the spaces between the columns do not match. Few windows in the inner courtyard, plus an uneven and broken plaster textures, add to the true Mannerist style Romano loved. The exterior of the palace was finished quickly, but the interior took ten years to complete. An entire team of decorators covered every room with frescoes. The most famous is Romano's invented dome on the ceiling in the Room of Giants. Using our world travel planner, Mantua attractions like Palazzo Te can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.
Palazzo Te Reviews
Un pezzo di storia artistica di Giulio Romano e un pezzo di storia della città di Mantova e dei Gonzaga. Consigliatissimo more »A piece of artistic history by Giulio Romano and a piece of history of the city of Mantua and Gonzaga. Highly recommended
Palazzo monumentale a dir poco "meraviglioso" su un'ampia superficie con spazi magnifici e rilassanti. Pianta quadrata con al centro un grande cortile, il tutto di da l'impressione di simmetria. Stupe... more »Monumental palace to say the least "wonderful" on a large surface with magnificent and relaxing spaces. Square plan with a large courtyard in the center, all of which give the impression of symmetry. It is wonderful that the Hall of Horses is impressed with the impression that they come out of the painting, and what about the Hall of Giants, the Winds, the Sun, etc.? Wonderful and fascinating. In short, you get lost in an infinite path that kidnaps you and makes you appreciate the flair, the skill, the skill, the symbolism. "A little place to go and reduce you sometimes to desinator, or to dinner for islet" G. Vasari.
A nice historical/architectural site in Mantova. The rooms inside are beautiful, the outside is a little empty. I went in the summer so it was also too hot to walk in the garden. Unfortunately the bar and library were being renewed, so I don't know what they were like. The website is well made.
Enormous palace with huge rooms each portrayed in specific architectural and lavish wall paintings and historic sculptures
