Reaching a height of 789 metres (2,589 ft), it towers above the rest of Ischia. Much of Epomeo is covered in lush greenery, with a few vineyards also occupying its slopes. Approximately 75 metres (246 ft) from the peak the mountain is covered in white lava.
A path leads to the summit of the mountain from Fontana, one of its quiet traditional villages.

As people have said before, this is quite a strenuous climb due to the steepne climb and very narrow rock gulleys, but worth it in the end! I got muddled at one sharp left bend where another track... more »

Superb long walk up to the top then down through chestnut woods and wildflower meadows to the coast. The recommended route is on maps and t shirts and posters and is worth doing. There is a wonderfully positioned cafe a few metres down from the summit. Great for a late breakfast after the climb while waiting for the mists to burn away and reveal the views across the island and to Capri and Napoli. If you only do one walk on ischia make it this one. Don't miss the ancient cave dwellings carved out of huge boulders. Could be the set for the Flintstones.

Insane place! Took only 35 minutes to reach the summit from Fontana. Paths are fairly easy to climb and it is well signposted. Also went back up for sunrise which was unbelievable. A must if you are on Ischia.
