  • The 18th-century church of the Blessed Virgin Assumption, inside the Aragonese Castle, was never completed. However, the white walls inside and the facade plastered with the simple, but elegant, lava stone portal maintain a beautiful ability to fascinate.

  • Built from 1737 in place of a previous chapel dedicated to St. Francis, the church of the Blessed Virgin Assumption, called the Immaculate, was wanted by the mother of Baptist Lanfreschi of the adjacent Convent of the Clarisse. The burden of construction, particularly significant given the size and architectural choices of the church (see structure and size of the dome), turned out to be unsustainable for the convent, already severely indebted; it even came to having to sell the convent's silverware to meet the most immediate expenses. For this reason the church was not completed and its walls are now completely white.
