Trip Planner: Europe / Italy / Tuscany / Province of Florence / Florence / Church and Museum of Orsanmichele
Church and Museum of Orsanmichele is known for the sculptures of saints by the various guilds of Florence, distributed throughout the church. View the timeline of the sculptures, created between 1340 and 1602, to appreciate the shift from Gothic to Renaissance art. Artists, such as Donatello, Ghiberti, Brunelleschi, and Giambologna, created the pieces. Read about the history of the church as a 14th-century grain hall and how it was converted into a place of worship later on. You can tour the museum on the second floor, or make your way to the top, where a viewing room gives you a 360-degree look at Firenze. Questa chiesa che prima di diventare Chiesa era un magazzino, si presenta con una forma molto particolare per una chiesa ed è un gioiello forse poco pubblicizzata, ma che merita una visita. more »This church that before becoming a church was a warehouse, it presents itself with a very peculiar form for a church and is a jewel perhaps little publicized, but worth a visit.
This beautiful church was originally planned as a grain market in 1337. It's beautiful inside and outside, where we can find copies of statues made by famous artists like Donatello and Brunelleschi, among others. The originals are in museums.
We were lucky to find this place from another top view of the city. The second and third floor consists of a museum where there are some amazing statues. Unfortunately this is not always open to the public, and is best to enquire within this church.
