Must see · Monument · Tourist Spot
Get a rare snapshot of Roman history at Arco di Traiano (114 d. C.), a majestic Roman monument commemorating Emperor Trajan. Since its construction between 114 and 117, the 16 m (54 ft) tall limestone arch has been restored several times, but the original craftsmanship prevails. Its barrel-vaulted archway features entablatures that depict its namesake's triumphs through detailed sculptures and carvings into the stone. Further scenes and allegories of imperial Roman activities are inscribed on the columns. Originally marking the entrance to the city, this impeccably preserved arch stands casting its shadows onto the town below. Use our Benevento trip maker app to visit Arco di Traiano (114 d.
