A fortified castle built in the 19th century by the House of Savoy, Forte di Bard reopened in 2006 as the Museum of the Alps. Although the main structure dates from the 19th century, the complex is built atop the foundations of a fifth- and tenth-century castle complex. The fortress repelled Napoleon's army of 40,000 with a mere 400 soldiers manning the castle. Visit the museum to learn more about the castle's defenses and the Alps. Nice place with an amazing view. The museums and periodic exhibitions present in the structure are well organized and very interesting. The museums are interactive and very enjoyable also for child. A nice place were to spend one day for a deep journey in the culture.
