Must see · Landmark · Tourist Spot
Piazza del Popolo was once a gateway to Rome for travelers from the north and a nexus of one of the ancient empire's most important roads. Today, you can admire the Neoclassical plaza's 24 m (78.7 ft) Egyptian obelisk, cupolas, and archways. The fountains were designed in the first half of the 19th century. Visit the churches of Santa Maria Montesanto, Santa Maria dei Miracoli, and Santa Maria del Popolo. The latter is built upon Roman Emperor Nero's resting place. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Ascoli Piceno holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Piazza del Popolo and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • This historic square is one of the most beautiful in Italy but is so often missed simply because it is not in one the big tourist cities - keep it a secret!  more »
  • Center of town. Hot during daylight and warm in the evening. Remarkable floor but the best is the groups of families and young people making their way.  more »
  • We went here for at short day trip and it was a great experience. A lot of old buildings to see and a nice atmosphere
  • A really lovely location. Even though we were trapped in a cafe for 2 hours by a spectacular thunderstorm.
