Criptoportico Forense, Aosta

#2 of 15 in Historic Sites in Aosta
Ruin · Tourist Spot
Walk the centuries-old halls of Criptoportico Forense, probably built to serve as a covered market or a walkway. The structure features three underground tunnels circumscribing a rectangular area--the entire complex once supported the forum of Augusta Praetoria, a city founded in 25 BCE by Emperor Octavian. Above the underground vaults once stood two temples dedicated to various Roman gods. Make Criptoportico Forense a part of your Aosta vacation plans using our Aosta trip planner.
