One of Italy's best-preserved medieval settlements, I Trulli di Alberobello - World Heritage Site is a World Heritage site. Nestled in the Puglia countryside, the town is known for its rows of white, cone-shaped stone houses known as trulli. These now host craft shops, restaurants, and accommodations. Wander the narrow, cobblestone streets, and peer into the small dry-stone huts to admire the vernacular architecture. Walk up to the main church on the hillside for a view of the fairytale-like village. The town is well-known for its pastries and sweets, so consider a stop at a bakery. • Alberobelo looks like a fairytale town inhabited by elves. But the story of Alberobelo is quite different, and its characteristic trulli, although with probable origin in the age of bronze, proliferated in Apulia as a form of evasion of tax collection. These houses were inhabited by peasants who arduously worked the land. They were simple people, very devoted to work and manifestly superstitious, with very particular symbols on their roofs. The Trulli are not exclusive to Alberobello, there are other areas of Apulia. But Alberobello was differentiated by being fully built in Trulli. By the uniqueness, great extension, homogeneity and longevity, since today many people live there as a single dwelling, the Trulli were declared a Unesco World Heritage site. They illustrate very archaic urban construction techniques, which still exist today in an extensive, homogeneous and harmonious set with their environment. They are built in limestone, without mortar, a very particular form of masonry. They have a very typical conical shape, and they resist well to the thermal variations by the materials used and the protection of the sun's rays. The city itself is a repetition of Trulli. In fact, each trullo does not differ much from others. But then there comes a trullo that distinguishes itself by its history, its size, its function and becomes an attraction. Alberobello is beautiful, friendly, with lively nights in the central square, but the next day there is nothing new and everything has been seen. The weather in summer is torrid, tourists fill the streets, culturally had no development and the landscape has nothing more to offer. So, in my own opinion, one day in Alberobello is enough.
