Trip Planner: Asia / Israel / Tel Aviv District / Tel Aviv / Independence Hall Museum in the Shalom Mayer Tower
One of the first buildings erected in Tel Aviv, Independence Hall Museum in the Shalom Mayer Tower provided the setting for the signing of Israel's declaration of independence. Once the home of the city's first mayor, the building now serves as a memorial and museum to the historic signing event. Uncover the early days of Tel Aviv's history through a series of displays, leading to the Declaration Hall, where the State of Israel was officially declared in May of 1948. Recreated with artifacts and reconstructed articles, the hall exists exactly as it was during that pivotal moment, the voice of founding father David Ben-Gurion echoing through the space from an original recording. Tours are available in English. Independence Hall Museum in the Shalom Mayer Tower reviews
Even though this is not the real location, it is still a great place to learn about the events leading up to the Declaration of the State of Israel. The movie is very informative, all the pictures on.... more »
We went in October 2019 while they were still improving the Dizinghoff house (where the permanent museum will be). Our visit was a bit lackluster. Its about a five minute movie, with a number of... more »
I'm probably not objective, but this experience loved me to tears. It's actually a temporary location while the municipality is fixing the actual historical location where the signing of the declaration took place. The exhibit is pretty well done and it's a short cultural experience that's accompanied by an 11 minute movie that can then be coupled by a visit to shuk hacarmel or a walk in the neve tzedek neighborhood famous for it's boutique cafes and artisan shops.
It is an important place for the people of Israel once it tells one of the most important part of their history! Also, It reminds us about some texts in the holy bible which prove that God is alive and He is the King of Israel! I recomend a visit because its very important to learn about the people in the places we travel to... it is a good way to understand and respect the world!
