HaTachana, Tel Aviv

3.2
Once a bustling railway station on the road connecting Jerusalem to the coast, HaTachana today serves a new purpose: a pedestrian complex filled with entertainment and shopping options. Built in 1892 as one of the first railroad stations in the region, the compound remained abandoned from when Israel established statehood in 1948 until its refurbishment in the early 21st century. Admire the historic buildings, get a charming souvenir, go for drinks and a delicious meal, or catch one of the live performances often held in the complex. • Jaffa, the second life of the historic train station Visiting Tel Aviv led me by the hand in the Neve Tzedek district, the oldest in the city, founded in 1887. Walking down Shabazi Street all the way to HaTachana, the old Jaffa railway station, built in 1882 with an architectural style typical of the German Templars-Protesters who settled in the Holy Land in the 19th century. It was once the terminus of the Jerusalem-Jaffa railway line in operation from 1892 to 1948, to be later used as a military depot and eventually converted into a commercial and recreational center; it houses shops, cafes, restaurants in a formidable context with deep historical roots, made of railway buildings, carriages and rails. Look, look, there's also a little traveling bookstore!

  • Close to Neve Tzedek, we passed there to know the story. There are lots of little shop and we have ice cream.
