Mary's Well, Nazareth

2.1
#8 of 14 in Historic Sites in Nazareth
A popular Christian attraction, Mary's Well marks the spot where the Angel Gabriel allegedly appeared to the Virgin Mary. Used for centuries, the well probably served most of ancient Nazareth, so it's fair to assume young Mary drew drinking water from this spot on a daily basis. A visit to Mary's Well represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Nazareth road trip planning website to plot your vacation.

  • Visited the site where Mother Mary drew water from a well. Would have loved to see this site in better condition.  more »
  • it is hard to imagine how was the life without running water. how hard is to go for miles to keep water to drink. do not skip to see the "washing machine"  more »

  • Honestly pointless. No actual evidence that Mary did anything here. It's barely a well, more like a fountain...or tap. Yeah. Hard to recommend this site. It's anything but a tourist trap. There are heaps of other sites in and around Nazareth. Even the cafes around "Mary's well" would be more interesting than this thing.
  • Believed to be the only well that provided for the town of Nazareth in the time during the life of Jesus. As with many sites in Nazareth this place has been turned into a Greek Orthodox Basilica, there is a small spring from which water from this well can be taken. Also belied to be an alternate site of the annunciation of Mary.
