The Garden Tomb, Jerusalem

#7 of 94 in Historic Sites in Jerusalem
Religious Site · Historic Site
Believed by many Christians to be the tomb of Jesus Christ, The Garden Tomb sits at the edge of a hill that many consider Golgotha, the site mentioned in the Gospels as the location of Jesus' crucifixion. Unearthed in 1864, the site acts as an alternative potential burial and resurrection site to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Group guided tours are available every 30 minutes, or individuals may walk the garden alone. Look for self-guiding leaflets at the information counter. • The Garden Tomb accommodates an ancient tomb and beautiful gardens surrounding it, which is contentiously believed to be a site of resurrection of Jesus. Our tour guide was a very nice gentleman who escorted us throughout the garden. I asked him questions pertaining to resurrection of Jesus depicted in the Scripture, to which he answered fully. The tomb was smaller than I thought, and anyone can enter in it. The surrounding gardens were also beautiful with flowers. Recommended for anyone visiting the area.
  • No entry fee. Beautiful gardens. Oasis of calm. If you do have time do go there and join a free tour for explanation. Make this walk even more interesting. Check out the wine press.
