Terra Sancta Museum - Via Dolorosa, Jerusalem

The Franciscans of the Custody of the Holy Land present TERRA SANCTA MUSEUM, located in the heart of the Old City of Jerusalem. There will be a permanent exhibition in discovering the history of the fascinating land, in which the fates of many peoples living together, in the Holy Places, from the three great monotheistic religions have been mysteriously intertwined.

The Bible, the most widely-read book in the world, recounts that in this strip of land, lying between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean coast, the divine plans intersected with the history of humanity; an apparently insignificant territory, in which God seems to have arranged a special rendezvous with man.

The TERRA SANCTA MUSEUM, through its exhibition of archaeological finds and works of extraordinary historical and artistic importance, will address the theme of Christian and Franciscan history in the Holy Land.

  • I loved, in particular, the multimedia museum. These things are already heard over and over again but it is characteristic and engaging. Nice also the museum with all those ancient finds, pity the lack of information in Italian, they were all in English and I understand as little as nothing English

  • Very interesting grouping of period artifacts and architecture. On the Via Dolorosa 1200 feet inside Lion’s Gate, traveling inward on right.  more »

  • If you go to Jerusalem, you must visit this museum! In the multimedia part, you're immersed in an environment of lights, sounds, ambient noise, stories and animations. It only takes 15 minutes to visit it and will give you a short but very clear overview on the history of the Holy City. The archaeological part is also very interesting even if it is not completely finished. A must see.
  • One of the best “modern” museum in Jerusalem. I say “modern” because the entire city is practically a living museum........ The building itself is very nice - the Franciscan Order obviously know how to splurge - and the accompanying texts and audios are very informative. The best part? Not too crowded like the ancient churches! Definitely must be included in your bucket list.
