It's a short river compared to others in the world. The word "Jordan" means "the one who goes down", and alludes to the fact that the river flows south The length of the Jordan River is 251 kilometers, travels a considerable stretch of the Middle East. Born in Lebanon, it serves as a border between Jordan, Syria and Israel and crosses the occupied West Bank until it flows into the Dead Sea, but its basin is larger: it measures about 18,500 km2 and occupies parts of Jordan, Israel, Syria, Lebanon and the West Bank. To the east you can see the Golan Mountains. The upper area of the river contains most of the water, and the lower course represents 40 percent of the basin, with less of the liquid. In this place was the one that John the Baptist poured the sacred waters on the head of Christ was located in the Jordan (Betania) Today follow the controversy without was in the Jordan or Israeli part This place of baptism is a must-visit for visitors and pereg we are baptized in the same place that John baptizes Jesus. I tried to live Baptism as Jesus Attached photos told us that the baptism of Jesus was not really in Israel, but in "Bethany beyond Jordan" (Al-Maghtas) in the country of Jordan. This part of the Jordan River is nine kilometers north of the Dead Sea in the east of the country. The archaeological site is divided into two: Jabal Mar-Elias (Cerro de Elijah) and the area of the churches of San Juan el Bautista near the river.
Sono stata qui in estate, il posto è carino, caldo anche questo. Si narrà che qui Gesù abbia ricevuto il battesimo da San Giovanni. It will be said that here Jesus received baptism from St. John. They sell tunics cheaply for purification, I would not have thrown myself even under torture (the acuqua has an indecipherable color), beautiful the moment of renewal of baptismal promises. Very nice the gift shop and the photographer who takes you the group photo (taking it directly to the hotel)
This is supposedly one of the earliest site of Christian pilgrimage as churches from both Jordan and Israel were found. If you can’t go to Bethany beyond the Jordan, this is the next best place to be as it is the same river. The white baptismal wear is US$8 to buy.
Perfect Place To Begin The Day -- Go Early! We got there when the doors opened. There was only one busload before us. It was nice and quiet and still. The guards, on both borders, were unobtrusive. The facilities were clean, but I can imagine the end of the day would be different. Peace be with you!
