Surrounding the remains of a 13th-century Crusader fortress, Apollonia National Park offers hiking and picnic opportunities, as well as panoramic views of an ancient Roman villa and the Mediterranean coast. The clifftop ruins, encircled by a wide dry moat, include a collection of genuine ballistae projectiles. The first settlers on the site were Phoenicians in the 6th century BCE, but the earliest remains date back to the Roman period. Take one of the two hiking routes to reach the top: the one for experienced hikers follows the ridge of the cliff, while the other is wheelchair- and stroller-accessible.
