Hula Nature Reserve, Galilee Region

#2 of 9 in Wildlife in Galilee Region
Spreading over the wetlands, Hula Nature Reserve supports water buffaloes, nutrias, otters, and swamp turtles, plus numerous indigenous plants and 200 species of migrating birds. The project of creating Israel's first nature reserve started in the 1950s, when swamps around the lake were drained. Follow the main swamp trail, dotted by bird-watching posts, and look out for kingfishers, pelicans, storks, cormorants, cranes, and waterfowl. The visitors' center features dioramas and 3D films on wildlife and bird migration. Remember to take binoculars with you. • An interesting tour around the lake, if you come during the migration season you can watch thousands of birds in the lake. The visit to "Museum" (Ofria) is highly recommended  more »
  • We've had a great time at this place. It is not big but very nice nature resort. Winter is a best season for visiting, I think.
  • Thank you for protecting nature. A short walk surrounded by swamps, animals, fish, birds and good views all around. Fee charged at entrance and can be busy with large groups. Best to arrive early or late.
