I visited here 30 years ago when you could walk where you wanted to. Now it is all walled in . Good for children. The visitors center is good where you can get gifts and go to the toilets(very clean e... more »
En venant de Doolin, il ne faut surtout pas aller au parking du visitor center, qui est une grosse arnaque très chère (comme à la Chaussée des géants). Continue south for 1.5 km and take the 1st small paved road that goes up to the right. You have to leave on the right the track that leads to the paid parking (another very expensive scam, and this time without a toilet or souvenir shop, 5 euros per person), you must continue and follow the arrowing "car park costal trail" that leads to a small tarred parking lot that does not cost e only 3 euros per vehicle, instead of so-called "Kilconnell". From there, we go up to the visible ruins of a castle, from where the path of the cliffs that we then go up to the north. The mass of tourists who paid 8 euros per head made the way in the other direction, from the north to the south, and turned around well before halfway through the route, so there are few of us on the trail.
The Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark as a part of the UNESCO system is interesting. I've been to other UNESCO sites, my favorites being the World Heritage Sites found in Newfoundland. Really the cliffs speak for themselves both in terms of their beauty and the actual sounds. I truly noted this only many months later when I listened to a couple of videos I had recorded where I could hear the seas crashing against the cliffs and the rain. It was an overcast, rainy, stormy day in August of 2011.
