Thomas Connolly Sligo, Sligo

There has been a pub here since 1780, opening onto Holborn Street.

The Markievicz Road end was originally living quarters.

Thomas Connolly's pub was first licensed in 1861. There's a great account of Connolly's in the book The Irish Pub, by James Fennell and Turtle Bunbury. Connolly's storied past includes at least one visit from Charles Stewart Parnell during the pub's early days, plus Thomas Connolly himself becoming Mayor of Sligo in 1890 (the same year he acquired the premises).

The pub was established during a time of plentiful maritime trade; deliveries of rope, linen and tea came into Sligo on ships from all over Europe. There was once a grocer’s shop at one end of the pub – now gone – popular for making sugar, selling tea and bottling whiskey.

We're very proud of our history and excited about what next. These days, our pub is best known for its warm welcome, its famous pint of stout, a wide range of premium Irish gins and whiskeys and great Irish craft beer.

We bring you some of the best in live music with regular guest performances at weekends and a regular local line-up.

  • Excellent whiskey selection and good selection of gins. A friendly barman who really knows his drinks and a trad session. Sitting at the bar between ther locals. What's not to love?  more »
  • Its unlikely the decor here has changed in the last 100 years. It has the traditional concept of enclosed 'snugs' where you can have a secluded drink (or several). As befits such a traditional place.....  more »
