Away to Me Sheepdog Trial Demonstrations, Malin Beg

Just fantastic. Lots of interesting information about the landscape, the dogs and the training of the dogs. The owners are very friendly and the dogs are well trained. A really great experience and it was so nice to watch the dogs at work.

We're wrapping up a month-long trip to Ireland (our 3rd). "Away To Me" is #1 on our list of "real" Irish experiences. Listening to Frances John share memories of his childhood and family (growing up Irish) added to our understanding of what makes this country so wonderful. It is the PEOPLE. From the time we drove up and were politely asked to give him 15 minutes to clean pups' pens (FJ had been away helping his grandma all morning) until nearly 4:30, we heard stories about the dogs, fiddle playing, sheep, peat and so much more. The setting is amazing with views of the lighthouse, green hills, sheep and the truly wild Atlantic. The wind was blowing hard. I got cold finally but none of that mattered. The pups are amazing and obviously very loved. They want to please Frances. We learned a lot. But mostly we lesrned even more about what makes Ireland so special...its people. "Thank you Frances John" for an incredible experience we'll always treasure.
