A hidden gem in rural County Waterford, Ireland; Lismore Castle Gardens have a long and interesting history. Comprised of two distinct gardens. The Upper Garden still possesses the outer walls and terraces of the original garden created in about 1605, while the Lower Garden is a more informal design mostly laid out in the 19th century under the guidance of the 6th Duke of Devonshire and Joseph Paxton. The gardens are now under the care of Lord and Lady Burlington, who are keen to ensure they remain at the forefront of horticultural excellence.Using our online itinerary creator, Lismore attractions like Lismore Castle Gardens can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.
The gardens are maintained by a team of five full-time gardeners, included among them some very experienced and knowledgeable plantsmen. The team can be found working around the garden during your visit and are surprisingly interactive!
Lismore Castle Gardens reviews
Loved our time in the castle gardens last month! Was so beautiful and we got it on a perfect sunny day. Give yourself at least an hour to see it all because it is well worth it. Would go back again! more »
No map or directions on how best to view the gardens. Covid 19 used as a very strange excuse by the lady in the cash office! more »
One of the most beautiful and unheralded little gems in Ireland. Spectacular collection of modern sculptures in a beautifully laid out garden. Worth going back to again and again.
One of the most beautiful places I've been. Easy to find, plenty of parking, admission is reasonably priced, the whole area is very well laid out and exceptionally cared for. The cafe has great quality coffee and cake and the indoor areas are clean, modern and comfortable. There's even a "book nook" for children in the cafe/gallery area. You could pass hours here on a sunny day or easily shorten the walk if you've got smaller children. The story of the site is interesting enough even for those without a big interest in history. There's a farmer's market at the gates on Sundays with local food, produce, plants and crafts. Highly recommended.
