  • This is a truly peaceful experience. The ruins are stunning, there is an early Celtic cross inside a ruin off by itself, and a trail goes all around the island, offering some amazing views. We came across some deer who were not at all afraid of us and allowed us to approach them within 20 meters. €10 pet person for the boat ride there and back was money very well spent!
  • Innisfallen Island is home to the ruins of Innisfallen Abbey. The monastery was founded in the 6th/7th Century by St. Finian the Leper. We hopped on the small, open boat from Ross Castle and took the short ride across the lake to it, getting views from the water of Killarney National Park where we had just come from. There were fewer than 10 of us on the boat, and when we arrived on the island we had it pretty much entirely to ourselves. We were given 30 minutes to walk around all the ruins and make a complete circuit of the island. We saw several sika deer in the trees along the trail. Wear comfy shoes and take in the whole place. It's a really nice walk.
