Powerscourt Gardens and House, Enniskerry

A historical estate in the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains, Powerscourt Gardens and House offers a glimpse into the lifestyle of the 18th-century wealthy. The estate encompasses 19 hectares (47 acres) and contains a blend of formal gardens, ornamental lakes, sweeping terraces, and meandering pathways, winding their way through 200 varieties of shrubs and trees. Originally a 13th century castle, the house underwent extensive alterations in the 1730s, when celebrated architect Richard Cassels added a Palladian facade and two circular domed towers. A century later architect Daniel Robertson designed the gardens, directing the work on the terrace nearest the house from a wheelbarrow, in which he supposedly sat to relieve pain caused by gout. • Worth a visit in the summer or autumn. The palace is preserved externally, there is nothing in the history, but the gardens are amazing. They are divided into different styles, including Japanese. You can walk and enjoy the clock.

  • Place is very clean and maintained in to the highest standards. Lovely to spend a day with family and friends. Huge varieties of spices and wonderful view at every corner of the garden. Japanese Garden , Italian and wall garden were all good..!! Large fountain was an eye catcher for kids. Only thing needs attention is food price , where its not so affordable especially when you are with a large group. ;) Thank you ..!!
  • Do not miss the Japanese garden. An audio guided tour is available, but I find that you get a much netter impression by just walking around and reading the small placards located here and there. 2 hours time can be recommended for the visit. Shop, cafe and restrooms are located in the main building
