Trip Planner: Europe / Ireland / Province of Munster / County Kerry / Dingle Peninsula / Dingle / Kilmalkedar Church
A simple beauty surrounds Kilmalkedar Church, a Romanesque church founded in the 7th century by St. Maolcethair. Look for an alphabet stone with both 6th-century Latin writing and an inscribed cross inside, plus a sundial stone and holed ogham stones outside. This site is associated strongly with St. Brendan, who, according to legend, lived here. Keep in mind this destination can be a little difficult to find, so take a map on your journey. Beautiful and quiet place. The church and graveyard are a very peaceful setting. Look for the sun dial and ogham stone on the church yard and inside the church. Don't miss the bullaun when you get back to the main road, walk to the right for a few meters along the road, there will be a kissing gate to your right and you will see a sign in the middle of the field, it's there!
Ancient historical site.well worth a visit. A pity so much has disappeared but more excavations seem to be underway nearby.
