Dingle Horse Riding, Dingle

#7 of 27 in Tours in Dingle
Dingle Horse Riding was founded in 1989 as a small, family-run business based in Dun Quin on the Dingle Peninsula. “We began with eight horses and a lot of enthusiasm!” The idea was to cater to those people who wanted to see the area on horseback rather than by car, bus, bicycle or on foot.

By 1998, the operation had outgrown its base in Dun Quin and purpose designed stables were built in Ballinaboula, just a mile outside of Dingle town. The move enabled the further expansion of the business and once settled into its new base of operations, it grew from strength to strength, building on its good reputation.

Now, 24 years later, Dingle Horse Riding is one of the most popular destinations for horse riding holidays in Ireland, offering inclusive, residential and post-to-post equestrian adventures.

We invite you to visit and let us introduce you to riding on the magnificent Dingle Peninsula, a haven for beach riding and mountain trekking.

We can accommodate everyone from a beginner in search of a fun and memorable introduction to horse riding, to advanced riders searching for exciting and challenging rides in open country.

*Day Trek Itineraries

ONE HOUR CNOC AN CAIRN

This mountain trek takes you into the hills behind Dingle overlooking the Atlantic Ocean with its rugged off-shore Islands; here we overlook the most westerly point in Europe.

This trail is suitable for beginners; our horses are surefooted and reliable. On the brow of the mountain we split the group according to ability; experienced riders are taken on the canter track while beginners continue on the scenic route.

These treks leave the yard at 10:30, 13:30 & 16:30 each day.

Cost €35 per person

TWO HOUR CNOC AN CAIRN SHAMROCK TRAIL

Our two hour ride is a good option for experienced riders who don’t have time for a half or full day ride. The Cnoc an Cairn Shamrock Trail takes riders on a similar route as the one hour Mountain Ride, however covers three ridges of the mountain and allows for even more spectacular views as they walk, trot, and canter along the paths.

Cost €70 per person

This trek is suitable for intermediate and advanced riders only.

TWO HOUR CNOC AN CAIRN AND DINGLE BEACH

Our two hour ride is a good option for experienced riders who don't have time for a half or full day ride. The first hour follows the same route as the one hour Mountain Ride. The second hour rides down through the town and onto the beach by the mouth of Dingle Harbour. Fungie the Dingle Dolphin is often spotted as we make our way along the sand towards Hussey's Folly Tower, although on the way back we may be going too fast for wildlife watching! If the tide is high we have an alternative route for the second hour, which has a place to canter and fords the river at Milltown before returning to the stables. For mixed ability groups it is good to ride together for the first hour, before the experienced riders can enjoy an increase of pace for the second hour whilst those less experienced can return to the stables and recover their legs.

Cost €70 per person

This trek is suitable for intermediate and advanced riders only.

Great option for experienced riders who don't have time for a half or full day trail. This ride is tide dependent so departure time changes regularly to catch low tide.

Cost €70 per person

This trek is suitable for intermediate and advanced riders only.

HALF DAY TREK

For the half-day treks, riders generally begin on the Cnoc an Cairn Shamrock Trail, then continue on to make their way through town to Dingle Beach (see descriptions above). There are different routes for the half day trek, so if you would like to book more than one half-day ride, different routes will be taken. Depending on pace, these rides are roughly three- to four-hours in length.

Rides that include the beach are tide-dependent, so the departure time changes regularly.

Cost €100 per person

This trek is suitable for intermediate and advanced riders only.

There are different routes for the full and the half day trek, so if you would like to book more than one days ride different routes will be taken.

FULL DAY TREK - Ventry

The full day to Ventry starts out from the stables and takes us along the stony beach of Burnham at the western end of the harbour. We then follow part of the Pilgrim's Route over the hills at Cathairbosine and down to Ventry Harbour for a gallop on the beach. A stop for lunch at Thady's Restaurant is followed by the ride home, fording Milltown River just below the stables on the way.

This is a five to six hour trek which departs at 10:00 each morning with a minimum of two riders.

Cost €150 per person

This trek is suitable for intermediate and advanced riders only.

FULL DAY TREK - Murieoch

Paddling in the sea in Smerwick Harbour. The ride to Murieoch is a full day which sets out from the stables, fording the river at Milltown before climbing over the hills towards Smerwick Harbour. There is the option of stopping for a look at the Gallarus Oratory (a 12th Century church) as we pass on the way down to the beach at Wine Strand. The lunch stop on this day is Bric's Bar in Ballyferriter.

This is a five to six hour trek which departs at 10:00 each morning with a minimum of two riders.

Cost €150 per person

This trek is suitable for intermediate and advanced riders only.

MIX AND MATCH RIDES

If you would like to do a variety of rides, then please do not hesitate to contact us!

**PLEASE NOTE

Important notice regarding Beach Riding:

We do not bring Beginner or Novice Riders to the beach; Beach riding requires Intermediate level, English style and a good level of horse riding fitness. Please give us accurate information about your riding, health, weight and fitness and note that riders will be assessed in the arena before we leave the yard.

We do not have western or stock saddles:

Here at Dingle Horse Riding we use direct rein and post the trot so it's imperative that western riders take English riding lessons and master the rising trot, plus are competent with the English style of rein contact, before commencing their riding holiday.

  • My wife and I had a lovely ride up onto the hill overlooking Dingle. We had both ridden as children but not for a long while. The staff were very helpful and friendly- getting us going very efficiently. The horses were well behaved and the route was truly beautiful. Our guide had good knowledge of the area and was chatty and friendly. Overall it was a really nice change to not have to walk up to the top of the hill ourselves!
  • I had an absolutely amazing day here!i would be intermediate level but i haven't ridden in awhile so lacking riding fitness. Susan and Catherine were great. They explained everything and put me on a suitable horse. It was fantastic for my confidence. The scenery is just out of this world. What a location for a trek!they took plenty of photos which I loved!so I've fantastic memories of the day!the horses are well looked after and the yard is spotless. Very professional.
