Bishapur, Kazerun

#13 of 31 in Historic Sites in Fars Province
Must see · Ruin · Tourist Spot
Visit Bishapur and walk among the remains of an ancient Iranian city. The ruler Shapur I founded the city in 266 CE because he wanted a new capital. Visit the fire temple, a shrine dedicated to Persian goddess Anahita. Take a stroll in what was once a courtyard, decorated with mosaics. You'll see many decorative reliefs that represent either the rulers or their battles and victories. One of the most striking reliefs is the one in the river canyon, enormous in size, depicting a military victory.
