Candi Pawon, Magelang

3.2
#4 of 6 in Historic Sites in Magelang
World heritage site · Religious Site · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
An early example of Central Javanese religious architecture, Candi Pawon represents a Buddhist temple built in the 9th century, that features building work similar to that of other temples in Central Java, exemplified by its broad base and pyramidal roof. Check out the elaborately carved pot-bellied dwarfs pouring riches over the entrance to this shrine, which is suggestive of this temple being a tribute to Kuvera, the goddess of fortune. Though smaller in stature than the more well-known Borabadur, this structure is older and its simple design gives it an air of authenticity. • The place is pretty small compare to other temple in the area. Pawon temple is still a good place to take some pictures and it is one of the important sites left by the Hindus kingdom. That temprature was pretty hot because there is no big trees surrounding the sites. Still, quite a nice place to take a picture
  • Really neat place, with orderly placed Shops strategically placed when you are going around the structure, the fact that they even bother to make such a minor structure a completely new revamp to make the whole vicinity as nice as the Borobudur temple is really something that deserves some attention and appreciation, such act was making the surrounding temple area much nicer, a complete elegant tackle floor and some decorations to make the mood even better. Also about the features in the area, there's your typical tourist information with their own guides, souvenir shops, mosque nearby, some sort of stone and wooden structure shop in the vicinity, a stable and occasionally mobile food stall. Overall it's not so bad for a minor heritage structure which purpose is for cremation of a passed away monks.
