Fatahillah Square, Jakarta

3.7
Relive the Dutch period of Jakarta's history at Fatahillah Square, located on the eastern bank of the Ciliwung River and named after a prominent Indonesian national hero. Home to several notable museums, the square still preserves an atmosphere of the bygone colonial days, when this cobblestoned part of the city served as the center  of Dutch Indonesia. Don't miss a visit to the city's renowned history museum, located inside an 18th-century building that once housed the offices of the Dutch East India Company. Many Indonesian rebels met a gruesome faith in the square in front of this building, where public floggings and executions often took place. • Came here twice. Once in early morning and 2nd time at night. It seems a place for locals to gather and many street performers will perform at night. Quite an interesting place.
  • Great place. Ada layanan guide gratis dan bus pariwisata gratis untuk setiap pengunjung yang mau ke kota tua, istiqlal, monas, bundaran hi, dsb.
  • Not much thing to do when u arrive here around 4pm on a saturday night...all the museum are closed even when the sign says open til 5pm...theres lots of street performers with their costumes, u can also rent some old-style bike 'sepeda onthel' to wander around the square, but its just to crowded that u have to be careful on riding the bike
  • Very nice to spend your afternoon here. Many great photo spot. Unfortunately, bicycles rent in the middle of square is kind of disturbing. Near to Jakarta Kota station, so you can easily commute here. Don’t go here on the weekend, since it may be too crowded. Go here on weekday instead to get the best experience. Also there’s free double deck bus near here, which is nice
  • What a cool dutch colonial herring site! All buildings are remain the same since the dutch conquered our land. The square and buildings around the area are very dutch, you can sense the Dutch feeling there, it’s like you’re in Holland despite the presence of indonesian flag fluttering around the buildings.
