Pataleshwar Cave Temple, Pune

4.1
Religious Site · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Visit Pataleshwar Cave Temple, a hermetic rock-cut complex dedicated to Hindu deities Pataleshwar and Shiva. Because of its construction during the Rashtrakuta period (700 to 800 CE), the site now enjoys protection as a religious monument. Explore the circular nandi mandapa, a pillared outdoor hall that stands in front of the cave. Outside of the basalt stone entryway hangs a brass bell, while the cube-shaped inner sanctum decorated with symbols of Shiva calls devotees to pray and make offerings. Visit the museum nearby, especially since it houses a peculiar Guinness World Record holder: a single grain of rice with 5,000 characters inscribed on it. • Not easy to find on google map. But once you find it you will be surprised as well as awestruck. Surprised - to find such a monument in this part of the city. Awestruck - looking at the how magnificently this monument has been built and maintained. So fortunate to have seen this. Best time to visit is in the mornings. Parking would be bit of an issue. What is amazing to see is that this temple is not atall crowded, mainly because people have forgotten its existence. Would definitely recommend to visit this place.
  • Nice place to visit, who want peace then you have to go there. Very clean and very peaceful environment. Such a nice architecture of this old temple in a cave. Every where you will found students with their books for study.
