Observe and inspect a wide variety of plant and animal life at Pondicherry Botanical Gardens. Originally established in 1826 by French colonists to test out crop cultivation in the region, the gardens have since grown into an informative center, with trees and shrubs labeled for easy identification. If you're traveling with children, they will enjoy the playground and toy train ride; keep your eyes peeled for the fossilized trees on the site. A small refreshment stand in the gardens serves snacks and drinks. •   The Pondicherry Botanical Garden reopened a year ago. George Samuel Perrottet created the Botanical Garden in 1826. The 22-acre garden has 175 species of trees and other plants. Visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the garden from the observation deck. There will be flowered stands, a Japanese garden, a rock garden, trails and an indoor jogging track, a restaurant and a viewpoint.

  • This place is in a rotting condition, which needs to be sorted out urgently. Badly maintained garden areas, dirty and broken path ways, water bodies with rotten leaves and rubbish. Not a place recomme...  more »

  • Have read about it before I visited here, however the reality is bit different. I read about this place where we could see themes of different world regions, but couldn't see any such things. Kids play area is good and well maintained, but not much options for small kids and toddlers. Shrub garden is really great to see different colored flower plants neatly arranged and worth to watch Also toy train is not functioning when I visited which is another turn down for kids. Hope it will be sorted soon
  • A must visit place and should be a place on your itenary especially if you are visiting with children. We visited at the right time when the garden was hosting different school student's flower art work. It was simply amazing. Lot of different local cuisines were on display and available to taste as part of some event. Toy train was shut for the event but it was well compensated by the flower decorations. Aquarium is small but hosts different species and has shark tank too.
