  • The relics of Francis Xavier, rest in the Basilica of Bom Jesus (Merciful Jesus), an active Catholic church in Old Goa. But touch the relics of the saint is not so easy - they are exhibited to worship only once every 10 years. Christians believe that relics can heal severe diseases and restore health. Missionary Francis Xavier, who promoted the Catholic faith in Asia, died of a fever back in 1552, heading to China. The priest was buried in the Portuguese colony of Malacca, and a year later, exhumed and the body miraculously almost did not decompose. Francis' remains were transported to Goa and buried at the ancient church, the predecessor of Bom Jesus. Over time, the news of the miraculous inland body reached the Pope and in 1622 he decided to canonize the missionary.
