  • North Button Island National Park is a beautiful place, located in the Andaman district of Andaman and Nicobar Islands (Union territory) of India. North Button Island National Park was established in the year of 1987. Total area of the park is 0.44 Km2. The North Button Island National Park forest area is a home for different species of plants, trees, birds and wild animals etc. The park is home to many creatures such as the dugong and the dolphin. The national Park is most known for its spotted deer population. Reptiles like water lizard and monitor lizard also flourish here in plenty. Blue whales, sea turtles, dugong and dolphins are only some of the many beautiful fishes the Park houses. South Button Island National Park and Middle Button Island National Park are also located near the North Button Island Park. The district headquarters of the island are located at a distance of 60 kilometers from the Park. The other places of interest around the park include Barren Island 60 kilometers from the Park, Marine National Park that lies to the west of Port Blair and Long Island. The nearest town to the park is Long Island, distanced at 60 kilometers. One can hire a boat service to reach the North Button Island National Park from the Long Island. The island is surrounded by deep and blue waters of the Bay of Bengal. The coastal cities of Chennai, Kolkata and Vishakhapatnam are connected by the island, through water transportation. This national park is geographically located north east of Port Blair city in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. South Button Island National Park and Middle Button Island National Park are also located near the North Button Island Park. The North Button Island National Park area is surrounded by coral-covered boulders and ridges interspersed with sandy patches in the sea water with clear visibility is a best scuba diving and snorkeling spot for tourists. This park area falls in the humid, warm and wet tropical climate zone. This park is covered by wet tropical forests. Most of the park area is covered with deciduous forest. Special climatic conditions of this region provide a typical climate throughout the year.  Though any tropical or continental climate do not exists here. From Jun to October is the time for heavy and continuous rainy season. Dominant flora Caryota Mitis, Dinochloa Andamanica, Salmalia Insignis, Calophyllum Soulattri, Calamus palustris, Calophyllum soulattri, Parishia insignis, Dinochloa andamanica, Hopea odorata, Artocarpus gomeziana, Artocarpus chaplasha, Dipterocarpus grandiflorus, Aprosa villosula, Canarium manii, Endospermum chinensis, Calamus palustris, Sideroxylon sp., Artocarpus gomeziana, Parishia insignis, Baccaurea sapida, Dipterocarpus pilosus, Salmalia insignis etc. Dominant fauna Spotted deer, Blue whale, Monitor lizard, Dolphins, Water monitor lizards, Turtles, Dugongs etc. Many species of colorful Coral species are also found in the park. Fishes found in the park area include reef fish, unicorn fish, tunas, trevallies and giant groupers etc.
