4.6
Satpula is a remarkable ancient water harvesting dam or weir located about 800m east of the Khirki Masjid that is integral to the compound wall of the medieval fourth city of the Jahanpanah in Delhi, with its construction credited to the reign of Sultan Muhammad Shah Tughlaq (Muhammad bin Tughluq) (1325–1351) of the Tughlaq Dynasty.
The objective of building the weir was for providing water for irrigation and also, as a part of the city wall, to provide defense security to the city against attacking armies.
Satpula is a usage in Urdu and Hindi languages, which literally means "seven bridges".

  • Satpula was an excellent water storage system and reservoir build during Mughal era. The dam still stands, though is in dire need of conservation.  more »
  • This area has plenty of ruins. Remains in the normal Park, great!, and I think. There were many people since the weekend. Young people were dancing.

  • A nice park to enjoy a walk or jog. Recently that have cleaned it up so it's become better. It great to see people still playing गुल्ली डंडा here 🤗 👍 👍
  • It is an unique structure, with eleven openings, two at each end being of a subsidiary nature, and the remaining once giving its present name (meaning 'seven bridges', or 'bridge with seven openings'). The sides of the openings are provided with groves for sliding the shutters. At each end is a tower, with an octagonal chamber within, once utilized for a school, from which the monument derives its alternate name of madrasa.
