Safdarjung's Tomb, New Delhi

Constructed for the Muhammad Shah's viceroy of Oudh, Safdarjung's Tomb remains the last example of Delhi's Mughal architecture and a treat for history buffs. A large palm tree garden inhabited by peacocks encloses the estate, which stands divided into squares in a Persian-style pattern. Fountains and tanks decorate the central pathway, as a vast marble dome directs all eyes to the two-story tomb in the center. Architecturally, the structure lacks harmonious proportion a bit, particularly when you look at it vertically--but it still makes for some remarkable photographs. • Awesome place to visit specially towards evening. Artistically built and very well maintained. It has octagonal towers on the four corners. Huge lawn to walk around and enjoy the serenity of the place. The entry fee is Rs. 25 per person for Indians and Rs.300 for foreigners. The place has facility for toilet and fresh drinking water. It's a plastic free zone.
  • One of those tombs that people don't care much about in front of other more beautiful ones, which is what makes it one of my favourites. It's well maintained, usually free from crowd and you can have actually find some peace in the middle of the city. The front coloured murals are the most beautiful ones and you won't find it inside, although there are some plain yet pretty carvings on the ceilings inside. It's worth it.
