Trip Planner: Asia / India / National Capital Territory of Delhi / New Delhi / Mirza Ghalib Ki Haveli
Mirza Asadullah Ghalib is one of the most popular poets of Urdu Literature. In fact, for many people, Urdu poetry has become synonymous with Ghalib. Mirza Ghalib was born in Agra into a family descended from Turkish aristocratic ancestry. His father died at an early age and then he settled in Delhi. Ghalib married at the age of 13, but none of his seven children survived beyond infancy (this pain has found its echo in some of Ghalib's ghazals). He started composing poetry at the age of 11. Prior to Ghalib’s era, ghazals were primarily an expression of anguished love, but he broadened the scope of ghazal across many domains. He expressed philosophy, the travails and mysteries of life and many other subjects, through his ghazals. This work is considered his paramount contribution to Urdu shayari and literature. He was given the title of 'Mirza Nosha' by the emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar, thus making Mirza his first name. He was also an important courtier of the Emperor. Since the Emperor himself was a poet, Mirza Ghalib was appointed as his teacher in sher-o-shayari in 1854. However, his fame came to him posthumously. He had himself remarked that though during his lifetime, the world had ignored his greatness, but it would be recognized by later generations. Not only a shayar, but Mirza Ghalib was also a gifted letter writer. His letters served as a foundation for simple and popular Urdu. His letters read like a live conversation, using words and sentences as if he were talking to the reader.Plan to visit Mirza Ghalib Ki Haveli and other customer-reviewed, writer-recommended New Delhi attractions using our New Delhi trip planner.

Beautiful place in the smallest of streets in old Delhi. Must visit. Ghalib super romantic guy from his age and era.....good English translations of his works. Time which will take to see the whole place 15 minutes so don't let your transport go . Keep him with you and finish off seeing the place . It's a little pit stop ,albeit a wonderful one .
The place reminds us of the great legend of the past. The place signifies a transition between the past and the present. It brings to your mind the old memories of the legend- Ghalib. It makes us proud of the asset this legend has bequeathed to the future generations to come. Ghalib shall remain relevant for all the times to come and for all universal human yearnings.
