Jantar Mantar, one of five open-air astronomy sites built by Maharaja Jai Singh II, contains instruments once used to revise the calendar and astronomical tables. Built in the 18th century, the facility allowed scientists to observe movements of the sun, moon, and planets. During your visit, look for individual instruments like Samrat Yantra, a huge triangle used as an equal hour sundial, as well as Misra Yantra, which measures the longest and shortest days of the year. Detailed descriptions in English accompany each instrument, so you may not need to hire a guide. I have never seen before this type of modern architecture, who's significance is not known to many people that it was used to measure the 1. Real time of the day, 2. Time before sun rise or subset, 3. Local time at different places, 4. Height of sun from Earth 5. Distance of different planet and galaxies etc. and many more I was amazing to see and know about it, and I feel myself proud as an Indian. But govt. need to keep it care and maintained it properly as it is one of the oldest and archaeologist monument of our nation.

The place holds scientific importance. Though situated in the heart of the city it is very badly maintained. The monuments need repairing and painting. The garden area could be more nicely modified to make it more beautiful. It is a nice place to spend valuable time in group.
