Khaki Tours, Mumbai
KHAKI TOURS is a platform where heritage lovers share stories and folklore about the nooks & crannies that make Mumbai. The aim is to take “heritage conservation” from elite/ intellectual circles to common man. Founded by BharGo, Khaki Tours expands the horizon of heritage from beyond “Fort” & takes you to the meandering lanes of unexplored precincts like Lalbaug, Gamdevi, Kalyan, Alibaug etc. which are not usually associated with "heritage". There are over 50 walks planned in the city and one new walk will be unveiled every month.Make Khaki Tours part of your personalized Mumbai itinerary using our Mumbai vacation builder .
Most walks follow the format of 2.5 Hours/ 2.5 Kms/ 25 Spots/ 25 Participants and are announced on the Khaki Tours Facebook page. Currently, the walks are free and anyone is welcome to join as long as they register on FB. The last few walks have got tremendous response, which has resulted in multiple co-hosts handling different groups. The last walk Banganga Parikrama had 151 participants! With an aim to restrict the number of participants to 50 per walk, Khaki Tours would like to charge a fee (Rs. 500/- pp proposed). As the co-hosts consider these walks to be a social service activity, the amount generated will be donated directly to some reputed NGO from the payment gateway.

We went for the Dockyard Heritage walk today led by Mr Bharat - founder of Khaki Tours, It was one the most wonderful experiences. Bharat has an excellent talent to transport us to a world gone by and to rekindle images of what may have happened 200 years ago in the land. He was full of very interesting facts of the history and with images from the past, We had a glimpse of Chinese, Art deco, Edwardian, Victorian, Hindu, British, Portuguese, Bollywood, Muslim, Tipu Sultan and even Russian influences in a small area of Mumbai that was one the the seven islands that led to the megacity the Mumbai now is. We got to appreciate the importance of Bombay Port Trust in the building of Mumbai and the people behind it. Thanks for the great tour Bharat and do keep up the great work in rekindling the rich heritage of Mumbai.
There are two types of tours : the super wornout fixed routes that cover the city's major monuments in a day and give time for you to shop. And there's Khaki Tours - they'll take you to places most Mumbaikars wouldn't have been to, tell you stories most locals won't know and in a manner that'd put most stage artists to shame. No kidding. Highly recommended for : both residents and visitors, to understand the evolution of a place, right from its tectonics to its future. Real facts. True stories. And mindblowing hosts, Bharat and Vinayak. UNMISSABLE.
