Kanheri Caves, Mumbai

4.3
#1 of 81 in Parks in Mumbai
Enter Kanheri Caves to explore an underground world of rock-cut monuments and natural works of art. Walk through some of dozens of basaltic rock caves that lie hidden within the forest of Sanjay Gandhi National Park. As you go deeper, examine traces of Buddhist art and Indian culture, since numerous unfinished paintings decorate the moist walls. Outside you'll find plenty of picnic spots surrounded by streams and small waterfalls. • one of the most beautiful, green and peaceful place found in Mumbai, beautiful caves and the way its been kept clean... the best part is in rainy season it gets a natural water fall with small ponds created, people visit this place week days as well as in weekend... amazing place to be... enjoy the pure air and on the mountain near the jungle....
  • One who loves ancient and cultural places, this is the best to visit. And above all if you love trekking then must go there especially in rainy season. The atmosphere of surrounding area is just marvelous. As Maharashtra is anyway famous for it's mesmerising climate of rainy season one must go here it's kind of mini adventure trek. One can visit in any day between 7:30-5:30. The parking is available but when it's public holiday it's quite full so make sure you reach bit early in the morning say around 10 so that can easily get parking. And there canteen is also available one can enjoy light snack also.
  • It's must visit place if you are interested in visiting historic places. It has 100 caves approximately. We visited during the summer, i suggest that one must visit here after monsoon to enjoy the greenery. To reach there, there are mini van and bus services available from National Park entrance. You can also rent bicycles or motor-cycles without gear for from the entrance. You can also go there by you own vehicles like motor-cycles, cars, etc. you have pay extra charge for entry ticket for those vehicles.
  • Refreshing place to be. For nature lovers. Best time is during rains and after rains, when there are rain created small-small waterfalls. Carry your rain suits to enjoy the experience instead of struggling to protect yourself from getting wet in rain. Beautiful view of city from the top, where you can just sit and relax. There are so many places where you can sit and meditate. Also, great place to go with family and enjoy the picnic.
  • Astounding! Visited this place recently. This is one of the rare places you believe did not exist anymore. It is situated in the heart of Sanjay Gandhi National Park. You will find a lot of private vehicles providing the transportation facility to this place. (In case you don't have your own). And irrespective of whether you like trekking or not, this "Kanheri Caves" should be in your list of must visit places.
