Must see · Ruin · Tourist Spot
Take in the imaginative beauty of Indian architecture dating back to 1026 CE at Sun Temple. At the sun temple, dedicated to Hindu sun-god Surya, you'll see three distinct architectural features. The Suryakunda, a pool that stores pure water used by devotees to perform ablutions, features four terraces adorned with 108 miniature pyramid sculptures that act as steps and lead to the base. The second architectural piece is the Sabha Mandap: an open, pillared hall that serves as a meeting place, consisting of 52 intricately carved Hindu gods. Finally, the main temple, Sanctum Sanctorum (no longer used for prayer), represents the shape of an inverted lotus-base plinth. • I love visiting historic structures and this one is maintained superbly and the grounds are in great shape. The sculptures are in impressive detail and it’s worth climbing down the stairs of the step well to inspect the carvings on various levels of it. The temple complex is a must see in Gujarat, and it’s best to take your time to really soak in the majesty of the structures and try to picture the era they were made in, and how this architectural marvel was achieved during that period. Though crowded during the time I visited, it was well worth braving the bustle for. Highly recommend a visit, but please be respectful of the surroundings, keep it clean and avoid littering or doodling you name anywhere in the complex.
  • Well maintained park with green cover and museum. Good place for taking snaps. After rain season one must visit, will find more water in the pond. Nice place to visit for taking snaps. Roads lead to this place also was in good condition, October 2019. 25 rupees per person being charged, October 19. Early morning or evening hours will be better. Stepping down to pond will be very humid in the noon time due to no air circulation. Food also being allowed if you want to sit and enjoy in the green park.
