Mawlynnong Village, Mawlynnong

Overlooking the plains of Bangladesh, Mawlynnong Village is reportedly the cleanest village in India. Aptly nicknamed "God's Own Garden," the picturesque, green village is home to nearly 90 families who keep it spotless round-the-clock. Stroll down the concrete roads among densely packed bamboo houses surrounded by small colorful gardens full of flowers and fruit-bearing trees. Notice the hand-woven, cone-shaped rubbish bins scattered along the road. A small village eatery offers a limited menu of tea, local noodles, and pastries. The whole hamlet is one big pedestrian zone, since cars are not allowed into the village.
